On February 2, a new Hulu series Pam & Tommy follows the timeline of the celebrity couple and the release of their infamous tape. The Canadian-born Anderson, who starred in the series Baywatch and has graced countless Playboy covers, was the original celebrity leaked-sex-tape survivor alongside her ex-husband, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. While she and Kardashian West are very different in key ways, their career trajectories follow somewhat similar patterns. But before we watched her transcend from sex tape victim to pop culture icon, there was Pamela Anderson. The familiar tale describes the lived experience of a certain billionaire beauty mogul, Kim Kardashian West. What starts as a horrendous violation of privacy, though, results in them ultimately achieving icon status. The story goes somewhat like this: a person is catapulted to viral fame after a private sex tape is released without their consent. In our celebrity-fixated world, those who bear that title experience a different kind of public obsession. At first glance, I thought her all-black ensemble was topped with a massive gray fur-which stressed me out, because like, let’s not do the whole real fur thing.īut upon further inspection, it seems her coat was made of…sparkly tinsel? Which, like, really caught me off guard.Sex symbols. Exhibit A? A recent ‘fit worn in New York City to an SNL Party. But when she’s not wearing SKIMS (and even sometimes when she is) Kardashian’s somewhat-off-duty looks are always fierce.
In fact, pretty much the only time I see Kardashian dressed down is when she’s showing off her latest SKIMS collections. I’m convinced this woman doesn’t put anything on unless it’s been perfectly tailored to her measurements-and I respect the shit out of that. She’s taking cues from her old party girl days (hello, mini skirts, cleavage and leather!) but combining them with a more elevated eye to ensure everything always looks chic. Over the past few months, though, Kardashian has shied away from her ex’s vision for her and leaned into her own personal style. Together, they basically put biker shorts back on the map, not to mention neutrals, body-con maxi dresses and a plethora of other looks curated to suit Kardashian’s petite-but-curvy figure. That’s partly because of her ex-hubby Kanye West, who always made sure Kim was looking fierce. When I think of Kim Kardashian’s outfits, even the more casual ones, I can’t remember an instance in which she didn’t look put-together. There are few celebs these days that are always “on,” and Kim K is one of them.
Stars that show up to award shows with curled locks, long gowns and sky-high stilettos love dressing down in baggy cargos, cropped tanks and Air Force Ones on the weekends. A lot of Hollywood’s top fashionistas go about red carpet glamour and off-duty street style in very different ways.
